Wooden Boat Festival 2006
October 21-22, 2006 in Madisonville, LA
Members of UNO's Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers Student
Section competed last weekend in the "Quick & Dirty" Boatbuilding competition
and race at the 17th annual Wooden Boat Festival in Madisonville, LA. Over the
course of two days, the students built a boat using the materials provided
to them, and then raced against 15 other teams down a stretch of the
Tchefuncte River. The students placed 5th, overall.
The boat stayed afloat, did not capsize and proved to be very course stable.
Job well done!
The boat was christened "Uncle Bob" in honorable memory of the late Professor Bob Lipp
(Department of Mechanical Engineering, UNO).
The annual Wooden Boat Festival is the primary source of funding for the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum which is dedicated to the maritime history of
our region.
If you missed the Festival this year, come out next Fall and support the UNO "Quick & Dirty" boat building team as well as the Museum.
