NAME Welcome
Welcome
to the web-site of the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.
The summer break is over and the Fall 2011 term is upon us.
A hearty welcome to all new and returning students, faculty and staff.
Prospective new students and interested parents should study the
information available
with the Undergraduate Program menu item. Specific
questions may be directed to
our undergraduate program advisor and chair
Dr. Birk.
Prospective graduate and PhD students should read the info in the
Graduate Program section and contact our graduate program
coordinator Dr. Taravella.
We offer graduate assistantships to qualified and interested students in
connection with our research projects.
The School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the
University of New Orleans was established in 1980 on demand by the local
shipbuilding and offshore industry.
Since then the School of NAME has provided the marine industry with well
educated graduates and supports its progress through basic and applied
research.
UNO offers the Bachelor of Science in
Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (NAME),
Master of Science in Engineering and the Ph.D in Engineering and Applied
Science.
Our graduates are on high demand and find positions usually well before
their actual graduation in a wide range of marine enterprises including
ship and yacht builders, offshore companies, engineering and design
consultants, software developers and others.
The UNO Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering curriculum is accredited
by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accrediting Board for
Engineering and Technology (ABET), 111 Market Place, Suite 1050, Baltimore,
MD 21202-4012, telephone (410) 347-7700.

Curriculum changes: freshmen and sophomores should take notice
+++
August 2011
In an effort to streamline the BSc NAME curriculum the School of Naval Architecture
and Marine Engineering redrew the flowchart. Major changes are a reduction of overall
credit hours to 128, making the two semester calculus sequence the default and
switching the sequence of Marine Engineering and Ship Resistance and Propulsion (Fall 2012).
For details see the Undergraduate Program/Curriculum
link.

Naval Support Activity New Orleans donates propeller
+++
March 2011
Finally, we got propulsion! We already have an anchor on display
outside, a Schottel propeller greeting visitors of the College inside
and now we can add a propeller to guide visitors to the School of NAME.
The Naval Support Activity New Orleans donated a 48in three bladed
propeller to the University. The School of Naval Architecture and Marine
Engineering says thank you to Captain Harrison and his unit.
We also thank George for making the
arrangements.
